Growing up I never had to learn how to do anything, really. My mom and dad took care of the entire house, all the way down to the weekly chores. I wasn’t responsible for a single thing in life until I left the house and started to learn what being a “real adult” was like. To be honest, I wish that I had learned a lot earlier about the best ways to do things, and the proper mindset to have when it comes to caring for your belongings. This is one of the reasons why I’m sitting here, currently completely freezing cold, without a single way to manage my indoor air temperature. Don’t get me wrong, I had a heating, cooling, and air quality control system before. I had a full thermostat, forced air furnace, and central cooling device at this house. And I never appreciated a single piece of that indoor air quality control equipment, if I’m being honest. No one ever told me that I should. Instead, I learned that touching the thermostat would change the indoor air temperature and the rest of the entire HVAC system just worked itself out. Now, as a grownup, I know that there’s important regular maintenance to perform on your air conditioner and furnace. Unfortunately, I found this out way too late… when my own HVAC system completely broke down. Instead of my parents teaching me about high quality indoor air temperature management, I had to learn about it from the HVAC technician who diagnosed my AC and furnace setup as “toast.” I sure wish I knew better before I got into this ice cold situation.
