I was at work when a colleague mentioned something about their boiler and why they thought they needed heater maintenance.
- Another was researching to find the best heat and AC products since their furnace/heater installation required replacement, and I suggested that they find out more about heated floors and see if it were an option, they would consider.
Another one talked about how it all went south when he tried to clean a furnace filter, only to find out later that he was the non-washable kind. Then there was me who was making everyone laugh when I told them of a time before I was comfortable using a wireless thermostat that I nearly froze myself to death at night because of keying in the wrong settings. The entire lunchtime period turned to a discussion about the heating industry and technology. I even learned what goes on during an HVAC service plan and why it was essential to have my heater serviced at least every year. I only got to see the HVAC tech during a heater repair. That was when I could no longer ignore it, but from what everyone was saying, I needed to form a better relationship with the heating dealership if I needed my electric heating system to last for years to come. It was a fun, and insightful discussion, and almost everyone had a mishap or two when it came to their heating and cooling system; some were hilarious while others could have had disastrous results. It was also evident that almost all of us had had a DIY project gone wrong.
