Back when I was a youngster, we didn’t have abundant climate control.
When I tell some people this, if they are young they tend to feel sorry for me.
If they are older, they tend to laugh at me because they know how it was. When you are living on a tight budget, having comfortable temperature control is something you have to learn to live without. Of course, you can get somewhat comfortable if you learn proper energy saving tips. I learned long ago that it’s great to use fans to help you cool down. Honestly, the fan is one of the best inventions ever apart from the air conditioner. It’s always smart to tighten up the house with suitable insulation. When you get the cooler temperatures during the night, you can let in that cooling air to keep the house nice and chill. When the sun comes up the next day, just shut everything and let the fans blow around the cool air within the home before it gets hot in the daytime hours. That’s what we mostly focused on back in our day and we would sometimes utilize the one and only window A/C unit that we had. Also, if we ever dared open the door too often in the heat of the day, my dad would make sure we learned not to do that. Making it overheated in the house made everybody miserable and usually we wouldn’t use the A/C unit unless we were having dinner. That was the time I looked forward to the most, A/C during dinner hour, but it wouldn’t last long because we had to keep the energy bills low.
