Having worked for so many different places of business, I have come to learn what I want when working as an employee. I’ve made a lot of good friends over the years too, and I think we can all agree that one of the most important things is having a comfortable work environment. I have worked in places that had the most terrible air quality and total lack of good climate control. Those places, I didn’t stick around for long because I just couldn’t handle it. As a matter of fact, businesses that operate like that tend to have a high turnover rate because most people don’t want to stick around. Now, I have also been in places that are just okay, and others that are downright enjoyable. The best places were mainly in office spaces where they had regular cleaning services and HVAC services from the local contractors. When they focus on keeping a clean environment where you can easily breathe, you feel appreciated and you can work harder. In other places, it becomes challenging to do good work when you’re breathing in all the dust that is floating around. I’ve worked construction jobs as well and most of those jobs were tough too. I would be in my car for AC breaks all the time and I had to make sure my car AC was maintained regularly. One time, we had a boss who provided a tent and rented a powerful cooling system to keep us all cozy and relaxed. He also provided ice-cold drinks while we worked. Now that was a thoughtful boss and there should be more employers like that.
