I never easily thought about the fact that a racoon might be able to tear up the cooling system unit at our new home however that’s exactly what happened to us recently.
I had started to notice that there was something wrong with our cooling system, but I did not easily do much research into it for a few days because I was too busy.
Then, the weather outside started heating up and the indoor air quality in our new home started going down. I noticed that the cooling system wasn’t cooling the new home down like it was supposed to, and so I started looking around to see if I could figure out what the concern was. I did not want to call the Heating, Ventilation & A/C contractor because I did not want to have an extra bill on our plate this week. Anyway, the cooling system unit in the new home looked like it was perfectly fine, and the control unit seemed to be okay also. I even changed the batteries to make sure that that wasn’t the issue! Since none of these things seem to be the issue, I ended up going outside to look at the exterior unit for the cooling system. That’s when I found the culprit! There were scratches and all kinds of things on the exterior cooling system unit. Apparently, a family of raccoons had taken to playing around on the unit and dropping trash and sticks and all kinds of things down inside of it! I couldn’t think our eyes. I didn’t guess whether to call an exterminator or an Heating, Ventilation & A/C serviceman.
