A homemade out of shipping container can cost a 10th of a traditional home.
In places where the cost of real estate is through the roof, other prefabricated homes shine.
People have been using shipping containers in home design and construction for the past 20 years. Millennials started recycling these shipping containers into homes, offices, and mobile labs. There are thousands and thousands of shipping containers all over the planet just waiting to be turned into sustainable living. Purchasing a recycled shipping container will usually cost around $5,000. You may be able to find containers that are cheaper if you shop around. Shipping container homes are very sturdy and safe and they can be airtight and waterproof. They do require some additional work, craftsmanship, and engineering. Shipping container homes usually look very neat and interesting, but they definitely take a lot of time and work. It is expensive to add all of the extra features, but these homes can be built in a much faster time than any other option. Shipping container homes are only allowed in a few states. Most of the West coast states allow recycled or prefabricated shipping container homes. There are at least 10,000 people across the West Coast living in a shipping container style home and the numbers are going up each and every day. I can’t see myself ever living in a shipping container home, but I’ve seen a lot of really neat and interesting homes. I am truly amazed by some of the works of art that have been created by old pieces of steel and metal.
