Are you sure the HVAC tech said he would be here by 8 AM?

I couldn’t imagine wearing that robe over my clothing

I looked at the clock in the kitchen and looked at my husband. For the tenth time in an hour, I asked if he was sure the HVAC technician said he would be here by 8 AM? He nodded and said yes, and the answer would not change, regardless of how many times I asked. It was five minutes after eight when I started asking again. He held up his hand and told me, again, that the answer would not change. Until it reached 8:30 AM, the HvAC technician was not really late. They usually gave a three-hour window for arrival and he was only five minutes late at that moment. Ten minutes later, my husband pointed out the window. He said that unless he was mistaken, the HVAC technician was there and he would be repairing the furnace. I sighed and walked upstairs to get dressed. I supposed I could have gotten dressed an hour earlier, but I had a heavy robe that was warm and cozy. I didn’t want to take it off until it was absolutely necessary. My husband told me to put it on over my clothing until the HvAC technician arrived, but I thought it was a stupid suggestion. I couldn’t wait until the HVAC technician repaired the furnace and I could get rid of the sweater I put on. I couldn’t imagine wearing that robe over my clothing. An hour later, I was shedding the heavy sweater because my furnace was working and the temperature was back up to seventy. I can’t imagine what it would be like living up north where you needed a furnace five months a year, instead of just a couple of weeks.
