Christmas was supposed to be fun.

Christmas has always been my favorite holiday.

The entire family gathers for a friends and family Christmas party the weekend before Christmas.

The family gets together and spend from Christmas Eve eve until New Year’s Day, at our cabin in the mountains. The cabin sleeps twenty and is less than an hour from the ski slopes. We have plenty of room for sledding and snowball fights, and there is a fireplace that has enough room for everyone to gather round and drink hot chocolate after a long day in the snow. My sisters and I make cookies, and it becomes a festive week for everyone. The only thing that kept Christmas from being fun this year, was when the HvAC system went out. It was difficult getting an HVAC technician to come to the cabin. Everyone was enjoying their holiday and didn’t want to travel two hours to a cabin that could be snowed in. If it hadn’t been for the fireplace, we all would have frozen. Some of the bedrooms had ductless HVAC systems, which made it better for the adults, but the bunk rooms didn’t. The kids threw their mattresses on the floor in the great room and slept in front of the fireplace. We didn’t let a little thing like a broken furnace to keep us from enjoying Christmas. Two days after Christmas, the HVAC technician arrived and repaired the furnace. We thanked him and sent him home with cookies for the kids. Our own kids, refused to leave the great room. They were having their own Christmas celebration; sleeping in front of the fireplace and telling ghost stories.
