There wasn’t enough money to pay the bill.

When I called the HVAC company to have my furnace repaired, I knew I didn’t have enough money to pay the bill.

I had a toddler and a newborn and we couldn’t let them go without heat.

My wife and talked about what we were going to do, and we decided to let the HVAC technician make the repair and then tell them we were broke. My thought was that they wouldn’t take back the parts they had already installed. They may even offer us a plan that would give us time to pay the bill. The HVAC technician showed up the day after we called, and my wife and kids were already at her parent’s house. I called her when the HVAC technician called, and she left the kids with her mom and came back to the house. He had to have noticed the anxious look we both had, but I hoped he thought it was worry about not having heat. We had already told them we had two very young children and needed the furnace repaired as soon as humanly possible. After the repair was made, the bill wasn’t nearly as high as we thought it would be, and I was sure I could have it paid in three weeks. I only hoped he agreed to let us wait that long. When I told him I didn’t have the money until I got paid, he wrote the information down on the sheet. He promised he wouldn’t repossess the furnace if we didn’t pay the bill on time. My wife smiled and thanked him for being patient.
