When our furnace broke, we had little to do but wait for the HVAC technician to arrive.
My husband found an old game in the attic where you had to put your hands in dark pots and find things inside.
It was something we played when we were ten years old. Our kids thought it was a stupid game and didn’t want to play. They thought they were too old for such childish games and wanted to play on their phones. We took their phones, lit the fireplace, and made them sit and play the game. The eye rolls soon stopped and we were all laughing. Our macho sixteen year old son didn’t want to play, but he was the first one to get squeamish when he put his hand in a bottle with some cold goo, while looking for a bone. After we finished with that game, my husband put more wood in the fireplace and we sat down to play some other games. An hour later, the HvAC technician showed up and he went downstairs to work on the furnace. Since it was daylight when the furnace died, no one noticed there wasn’t any electricity. The sun was shining, and we assumed it was just the furnace. The HVAC technician tried to turn the light on in the basement, and that’s when I realized there were no lights on the stove, or the microwave. When the power came on and the furnace started running again, we all started going our own way again. My son turned off the lights and yelled that all because we thought the game was over, he was still playing.
