I had only been working this job for a couple of afternoons when our teacher told me that she needed me to go to an elderly gentleman’s house to change the air filter.
I had no problem with air filters, however it seemed odd.
When I got there, she showed me where the air filters were. I thanked him and stood there, waiting for him to leave. She waved toward the natural gas furnace and told me to get work. I couldn’t suppose that she was going to watch me change the air filter, however once I got the air filters changed, I heard some unusual noises coming from the gas furnace and diagnosed it. I found a lot of dander and dust around the components and hastily dispatched it. Once the dust was gone, I cleaned the entire natural gas furnace and evaluated the HVAC duct. I wanted to make sure there were no clogs in the HVAC ducts that were disrupting the airflow and possibly doing damage and destruction to the major components of the natural gas furnace. The entire time I was doing the inspection, the homeowner sat on the basement steps and watched every transfer I made. When I completed the job, she asked if I thought I had forgotten anything? I shrugged and said I was pretty particular I hadn’t, however if there was something else she wanted me to do, I would happily do it. When I got back to the Heating, Ventilation plus A/C company, the teacher asked how things went. I told him how I thought it was unusual how the outdated woman watched me and our teacher laughed. She said this outdated woman was her mom. She was also her teacher when she had first become a Heating, Ventilation plus A/C worker, and I passed the test.
