It’s like we take for granted some of the stuff that is the most essential part of our lives.
Do we just get accustomed to blindly counting on things that are always there for us? I know that I’ve done that in personal relationships and have come to deeply regret not paying more attention. I’m also prone to do that with the actual stuff in my life. One of my worst examples of that behavior is how I’ve been with my HVAC equipment. I grew up inside the central air conditioning of a very nice home. And that place came with plenty of quality heating and air. But I never paid any attention to the heating and cooling equipment. About as close as I got to caring about any of it was when I adjusted the thermostat setting. Unfortunately, I carried that behavior into my adult life. Even now that I’m a homeowner, I’m constantly having to remind myself to do the HVAC chores. And that shouldn’t have to be like that. I would really like to change my perspective. I should be grateful to have the air conditioning that saves my bacon during our blast furnace of a summer. It’s easy to disregard the heat pump during the winter because we really don’t need much heating. But in a couple of months, the heat pump will be running night and day again as we will need a bunch of air conditioning. And I’m really committed to being sure that I’m doing all I can when it comes to taking care of the HVAC equipment the way I should. So along with changing the HVAC air filter every month I’ve also signed up for the HVAC service plan. This will ensure that the heat pump gets consistent HVAC maintenance throughout the year.
