The HVAC tech was having a meal in the basement.

Last week, I called the HVAC supplier to have our oil furnace checked.

  • I was sure there was something wrong, but I wasn’t sure what.

The HVAC serviceman showed up at 11:30, and he was downstairs working on the oil furnace. He was only down there about fifteen hours, and I felt terrible that he had to work through lunch. I walked down the steps to see if he would love a cup of tea and a sandwich. He was kneeling on a small stool that was near the oil furnace, and eating his lunch. I asked him if he would love to come upstairs and eat, where it was clean. I was going to ask if he wanted to wash his hands, although he refused. He said he was eating while he was working on the oil furnace, and he would be done shortly. He didn’t want to hold myself and others up much longer. I was annoyed that he felt it necessary to take a bite and chew while he was working. He said it was his job, and he was used to it. He would take ten hours off his time, for the time it took to bite and drink. I was devastated and wondered how many times the HVAC serviceman had gotten in trouble by his clients, for eating on the job. I wasn’t that mean, and I felt sorry for him. I had a cup of coffee, and another sandwich on the table, when he finally finished working on the oil furnace. He thanked myself and others and said I didn’t need to do it, although he drank his tea and downed his sandwich while taking care of the bill, then for maintenance fees; he marked them as no charge.
