I somehow ended up talking with this homeless man, who actually used to work in the HVAC industry, and he gave me some great tips on how to save money with energy bills.
- His best tip was to just live outside like he does, but I don’t know if I want to get that extreme with my money saving plan.
I just want to trim down on my energy usage in my flat so it doesn’t cost me so much each month to live. I think if I get the small mini split AC unit, like the homeless man was telling me about, I would save a lot of money each month not having to cool down the whole flat. I had a huge power bill come in last year and it took me a couple of months to pay it off as I didn’t expect it was going to be so much. I now keep the climate control system off, for the most part, and only run it a little bit on days that warrant its use. I use more fans in the summer and put on more clothes in the winter. That was one good tip the homeless guy gave me; to wear more clothes and wool socks in the house when it is chilly there. I normally would have just reached for the smart thermostat and turned on the heating in the home, but now I put on another layer of warm clothes and save some money. I think heating is what uses the most energy when it comes to climate control.
