I’m not so sure that my mom didn’t curse me. I can remember her wishing that I have kids that caused me problems the way my sister and I did for her. I thought I was a pretty decent kid and I know my sister was outstanding. So I guess that is probably true for my children even though I’m thoroughly disgusted with them right now over their HVAC behavior. Like I said, they are good kids and I’m mostly proud of everything they do. It’s just they cannot listen when it comes to the residential HVAC. Anything I said when it came to the thermostat or the air conditioning was ignored. It finally had to come to a head and that happened when I came home early from work on a summer afternoon. My wife was still at work and the kids, who are old enough to be on their own, were at home. As I was getting out of the car, I was just looking forward to putting my feet up inside the central air conditioning of my house. But when I walked inside, I nearly blew my top. I saw that the sliding glass door was open all the way. The thermostat was set at 70 degrees while it was almost a hundred outside. And the HVAC equipment was running non-stop. But I caught myself. Instead of screaming at them, I simply called the HVAC company. The next day an HVAC technician installed a smart thermostat. Now I’m the only one that has the code to manually adjust the thermostat setting. I can also monitor the HVAC use from an app on my phone. I had to do something and I think the smart thermostat was the answer.
