The storm had knocked the power out

Things were getting crazy as the winds kicked in.

We could hear it brushing against the trees outside and we knew the storm was close.

The weather lady had said people should make sure they are in a safe area before the rain. There were also predictions of record breaking flooding. Living by the coast has its merits. We are only about 10 minutes from the beach. When we were kids, we’d have to drive hours to get to the beach and enjoy the waves. But, now we are living by the coats, and in no time enjoying the sun and sand. However, the other side of living in this area is every summer we have to deal with storms that batter the area mercilessly. And with climate change, the strength of the storms keeps getting worse. Eventually the storm arrived and knocked off the power. We were lucky to have the generator because it kicked in soon after and we still had air conditioning. In the past, when we only relied on the national grid, we’d have to go without air conditioning until the power was back. When the storm was really bad, we’d go days without power, and feel every bit of not having AC in the house. Only later did we add the backup generator which now ensures we have power and can keep the air conditioning running. The kids won’t have to complain about the house being too hot because the AC is off. Always try and invest in a generator if you live in an area where power goes off because of bad weather. This can be the summer storms or winter blizzards.
