The HVAC tech wanted to talk.

When we called for HVAC service, I didn’t expect to also get a friend.

I had explained what was going on with the furnace and asked how long it would take for an appointment.

Two hours later, the HVAC service van was pulling into the driveway. When a woman got out of the service van, I thought she looked familiar. She walked into the house and showed me her HVAC ID badge. Once the furnace was repaired, we sat down to look at the bill, and I remembered where I saw her. I had gone to school with the HVAC technician, and had a crush on her. We sat there and were discussing the bill, when she smiled. She remembered me, and we started talking. An hour later, I reminded her she probably had other HVAC systems to work on, and I had to go to work. She apologized for taking up my time, but that wasn’t the problem. I really did need to go to work, and I didn’t want her to lose her job. I asked if she wanted to come over for dinner the next night. It was a weekend, and if she had off, we could sit and chat all we wanted. It felt odd having a date with an HVAC technician, but it wasn’t really a date. Was it? I had to think about whether I still wanted to date her, or if it was just someone I knew reconnecting. When she showed up for dinner, she was dressed like the girl I knew, and there was nothing to say she was an HVAC technician, except for her comment about how lovely the air quality was in my home.
