Shouldn’t have tried to fix the gas furnace

It’s been a cold winter this year.

And I sure haven’t made it easy on myself when it came to heating the house. For some reason, my schedule got completely insane this fall. There was a big push in the office for introducing a new product that I spent unholy hours inside the zone controlled HVAC of the office. And then, I finally got Covid. While I was vaccinated, it was still no picnic. It felt as though I had one of the worst cases of the flu ever. And I had to stay out of work just when I needed to be inside the commercial HVAC of the office. So when I got back in there, that was my sole focus. This meant that I really let some things fall through the cracks. Namely, I completely whiffed when it came to getting heating maintenance. I simply forgot to call the HVAC company like I normally do each fall. We always get HVAC maintenance in the fall and in the spring. Of course, that error really came back to bite me in the rear end. It was just before Christmas and really cold outside when the gas furnace decided to stop working. This happened on a Sunday afternoon so I thought I would have a look at the gas furnace prior to calling the HVAC company on Monday. Well, I did find a burned out switch that I promptly replaced with one from the home improvement store. The problem with that was it was not a factory part and ended up doing a great deal of damage to the gas furnace. But the lesson was learned. We are now part of the HVAC service plan so I’ll never forget heating maintenance or the air conditioning tune up ever again.
