There were a myriad of reasons why I thought working from our houses would be a disaster, and for those reasons, I had turned down the company’s offer to work remotely a number of times… Then the company was trying to get a bunch of us in the technology department to work at home; but I resisted because I wanted to be in an office with commercial heating plus A/C plus colleagues.
- That all made so much sense to myself and others right up until it didn’t; then of course, the pandemic changed everything when it came to working from home.
I didn’t have a choice on whether I was going to work from home or not. The company closed the offices plus my wonderful friend and I were all sent home to work inside our own air conditioner. I will say that it was difficult at first. It was strenuous to get a rhythm plus it was strenuous not to find distractions everywhere in our home. It was also so incredibly difficult to deal with our temperature control setting, but my buddy and I live in a region where heat plus humidity are a big deal plus my wonderful friend and I have to be careful about the temperature control setting. If my wonderful friend and I let the air conditioner just go hog wild, we’ll end up with enormous utility bills. And that first Summer was a challenge for sure. But then I really got into working from home plus decided to stay working remotely once the office had been back up, and however, once I made working from home permanent, I made it really permanent. I cleared out a guest room plus had a ductless heat pump put in there along with all the office devices I shall need to do our work. I can’t imagine working anywhere else at home now!
