I got an iPhone call from the local home center last week. They asked me my name and address then told me I had won a prize in their raffle. I had won a brand new air conditioning unit, and all I needed to do was drive to the home center and occasion out my new cooling system. I needed newer A/C components in my family room, and I was immediately wondering what size A/C component I needed. My Mom and Ed came over, and Mom tested the BTU’s. The next afternoon, Ed took me to the home center to occasion out my A/C unit. When Ed and I got there, I provided the man my raffle ticket and he called the supervisor. The supervisor came out to show me the new cooling system. I told him I was to occasion out the cooling system I wanted. He nodded and showed me three different models. Ed spoke up and told him that wasn’t how it sounded. Ed thought I should be able to choose my cooling system, and not just choose between the 3 choices. The man apologized for the misconception, but said it wasn’t done on purpose. Ed asked if my friend and I could trade it in for the larger air conditioning components I needed. Ed said he would take the price of their chosen A/C unit, and take it off the price of the A/C component I chose. I still could not afford to buy the large cooling system. I took the smaller A/C component home, hoping I would get some meager comfort out of the smaller A/C unit, but seriously doubting it.
