I promised the kids we would go to the zoo over summer vacation but then I kept putting it off.
Finally, August rolled around and there was only 1 week left before they start school again.
You might not think that a 5 and a 6 year old would remember but they did. There was no way I could weasel out of going to the zoo. Unfortunately, we only had a short time left for our visit and it was hot and humid with a chance of thunderstorms. That is typical for this area. I really really didn’t want to go to the zoo and stand around without air conditioning all day. I am glad I found an alternative. There is this little nature center nearby that has all sorts of local animals. The best part is that it is almost all indoors. Only the otters are outdoors. Everything else inside with climate control. So I took the kids to the nature center. They complained because, obviously, it wasn’t the zoo we normally go to. Thankfully, I was able to convince them that the air conditioned nature center was a different sort of zoo. My son really loved the snapping turtles, my daughter loved the otters of course, and I loved the air conditioning. I was super comfortable indoors. The humidity was kept in check, and we all had a great time. That is, until we got back home. Once we got home I noticed that our central air conditioner had stopped working. So I still had to deal with the heat and humidity until the A/C repairman came. Thankfully the kids loved watching him work. I, on the other hand, could really use a nap.
