I have lived in the same house my entire life.
My parents built the house about four years before I was born. When my father was getting ready to pass away he passed the house on to me even though I was not yet married. I love the house so much! It is large, but it still feels homey. When my husband and I started dating, I let him know that the house belonged to me, and we decided that we would stay there even after we were married. It has been seventeen years since he moved in, and I still love the old house. Last winter, the fireplace in the house started having some issues. My husband tried to fix it, but it was filling the house with smoke and soot. We had to stop using it which was really hard for me. I have so many memories of sitting on my dad’s lap next to that fireplace listening to him read or sing to me. My husband felt so bad about the fireplace that he tried to get me a new one installed for mother’s day. He had all of the plans arranged, but I guess the company came in and for some reason said that they would not be able to install a new fireplace without doing a lot of work which would cost quite a bit more than my husband had to spend. I appreciated that he tried to get me a new fireplace. Last month, I found a good sized propane fireplace at a yard sale in my neighborhood. I asked my husband about it, and we decided to buy it. I am excited to have a fireplace once again even if it is not quite the same.
