I’ve been driving for 30 years, & I had never had an accident! I had never had any kind of traffic violation, including a parking ticket, and what happened the afternoon I had our first accident, I do not know.
I knew I had to make a left turn, & even when I turned into the right-hand turn lane, I knew I had to turn left.
I also knew I should have looked before I turned left from the right-hand turn lane, however I didn’t. My first car accident, our first of any traffic violations, was out of stupidity. I couldn’t even call it an accident, but all I saw was the face of that awful Heating, Ventilation, & A/C serviceman behind the wheel of the repair van as he hit the front of our car. I pulled our car off into a parking lot that was within 10 feet of where he hit me, but the young Heating, Ventilation, & A/C tech pulled in behind me. Two hours later, the police pulled in front of us. I didn’t give the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C tech a occasion to talk. I told the police officer I had been distracted, pulled into the right turn lane, & then turned left directly in front of the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C repair van. When he asked if our car was drivable, I told him yup & let them suppose I already called our insurance corporation. All I needed to do was get the insurance information from the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C serviceman. The cop wrote up a police report & offered us each a copy. Although the Heating, Ventilation, & A/C tech could not have avoided hitting me, he was afraid to call his boss, because it was his first afternoon on the job.
