There were a myriad of reasons why I thought working from the house would be a disaster… And for those reasons, I had turned down the supplier’s offer to work remotely a number of times.
The supplier was trying to get a bunch of us in the technology department to work at our homes.
But I definitely resisted because I wanted to be in an office with commercial heating and air conditioning and colleagues. That all made so much sense to me right up until it didn’t, and of course, the pandemic changed everything when it came to working from home, and I did not have a choice on whether I was going to work from the house or not. The supplier closed the offices and we were all sent to our houses to work inside our own a/c. I will say that it was tough at first. It was tough to get a rhythm and it was tough not to find lots of distractions everywhere in our home. It was also tough to deal with our control unit setting, and my friend and I live in a region where various heat and humidity are a big deal and we have to be careful about the control unit setting. If we actually allow the a/c to just go hog wild, we’ll end up with enormous energy bills. And that first summer time was a challenge for sure. But then I entirely got into working from the house and decided to stay working remotely once the office was finally back up; however, once I made working from the house permanent, I made it entirely permanent. I cleared out a guest room and had a ductless heat pump put in there along with all the office units I shall need to do our work. I can’t imagine working anywhere else but house now!
