The other day when I was trying to clean the air ducts, I ended up falling and hurting myself.

I am more than a little bit clumsy, that’s for sure.

It seems like every other day, I am tripping and falling or hurting myself in some way. My friends and family all laugh at me about it, but sometimes that gets old. I wish that I was more graceful because I don’t really like having bumps and bruises all over me all the time from self-inflicted injuries! Today, I decided that I was going to try to clean the air ducts in my house myself. My ventilation system has not been touched in a long time, and I started thinking about how dirty it must be on the inside. I did not want to call my local HVAC company to have them come and do the ventilation system professionally, though. I just don’t have all that much money in my home improvement budget right now. That’s why I decided that I wanted to do it myself. I should have known better than to try and climb a ladder to clean my ductwork myself, though. I mean, I know that I hurt myself a lot, and that should have just been a warning sign to me to stay off of ladders! I didn’t, though, and when I was up on the top rung of the ladder unscrewing the air vent cover in the ceiling, I got all tangled up in my own feet and I fell all the way to the floor, just missing the couch. I could have broken my neck! Thank goodness there were throw pillows on the floor. They broke my fall.

I really enjoyed having our wood burning fireplace this year when we were hosting people for the holidays.

This was the first year that we have ever had a fireplace in the house during the holidays and I really loved it. Growing up, I always really wanted to have a fireplace and at that point I did not care whether it was a wood burning one or a gas log one. I have just always wanted a fireplace for some reason. I think that a home always feels cozier and safer whenever there’s a fireplace in it. It’s always nice to have a back up heating source during the winter around here, too. The weather around here gets very icy and cold during the winter and the temperatures are super cold most of the time, too. I remember last year the temperature was below zero for weeks at a time during the winter and I just hated it. Unfortunately for me I didn’t have a fireplace at all last winter so the house didn’t really feel cozy at all. Now, we have a high efficiency furnace that does a pretty good job at keeping the house nice and warm. But we also have our new wood burning fireplace and it makes the whole house feel better inside! Having the fireplace has just been great this past year and everyone just loves it. It has made our house feel much better than it ever has before. I wish that we would have gotten a fireplace years ago. I’m so glad that we have one now!

I thought that was weird at first because I was not expecting the allergy doctor to give me any kind of advice like that! But she told us that if we had the HVAC company come to do some professional ductwork cleaning for us, then it might help me with my allergy problems

This past summer, I had so many issues with allergies! It was way worse than normal and some of the time, I thought that I was just going to itch to death! I kept coughing and sniffling and sneezing for weeks at a time. It was all very annoying, that’s for sure. I just could not figure out how to get rid of the allergies. I took just about everything that I could think of to get rid of all of the symptoms. I definitely tried all of the over the counter medications that I could get my hands on. None of that stuff even seemed to help me at all, though. One day I finally had had enough and that’s when I decided to make an appointment with the allergist at my doctor’s office. When I got there, I thought that maybe she would give me a shot of something to get the allergies to stop. However, instead of doing something like that, she told me to go home and call up my local heating and cooling company and make an appointment with them. I thought that was weird at first because I was not expecting the allergy doctor to give me any kind of advice like that! I never even thought that there would be any ties between the allergy issues that I was having and the ventilation system in our house!

The other day when I was at my art class it was freezing cold in the classroom.

This is highly unusual, too, since the room that we meet in is right next door to the ceramics room where the kiln is.

Usually the kiln is running and that really starts heating up the whole entire hallway on that side of the building. That wasn’t happening the other day, though. We were having class and I didn’t even know if I was going to be able to get through the class because it was so cold in the room! Many of the students complained to the instructor about the temperature in the classroom, but the instructor said that there was nothing that she could do about it. Apparently, they were having issues with the HVAC system throughout the whole entire building. The instructor told us that she had been freezing all day long. Even her office down in the basement was super cold. She said that when she came into work that morning, she could see her breath when she sat down at her desk! The commercial HVAC company that they use at the art school had been called already but they were still not there, even though our class was in the evening! Finally, about the time that the class was supposed to be over, I saw the commercial HVAC truck pulling into the parking lot outside. Hopefully, next week when we have class again, the heating system will not be an issue for us! I don’t want to have class in the cold again!

I had recently given an office job, and I loved it.

The only thing I didn’t like about the new position, was that the temperature in the office was so cold that my fingers ached.

I asked my boss if he would turn up the thermostat and he refused. He said that if it was too warm in the office, you weren’t productive. I tried to tell him I wasn’t productive because my fingers weren’t working well. He said I could bring in a jacket and wear it, but he wasn’t turning up the thermostat. I brought a space heater to work the next day. I had it under my desk to keep my feet warm, and the heat was spreading up to my fingers. When my boss realized I had a space heater, he took it away. He told me I could have the space heater back at the end of the day. I was talking to some of the ladies when I went to lunch, and they laughed. They said that was why he went through so many secretaries. He didn’t believe you needed heat to work. The one girl told me he thought that if you worked hard enough, you would produce your own heat. That afternoon, I knocked on his door and walked in. It was so warm in his office that I wanted to sit down and feel it permeate my body. He told me to never enter his office until I was invited. I asked him if that was rule was because he didn’t want the heat to escape, or he wanted to turn his thermostat down first. When I got to work the next day, the temperature was up to seventy in my work area.

When I started working from home, my husband wanted me to have an area that was private, and our kids couldn’t just pop in and out whenever they thought they had a problem. Three years later, the pandemic was over, the kids were back to school, my husband was back to work, but I was still working from home. Without the HVAC running hard all day, my office was cold. Even leaving the door open, wasn’t bringing enough heat into the office. I told my husband I needed a space heater for my office. I had a small air conditioning unit for summer, but I needed something for winter. Without a space heater, my fingers were numb and I was taking my laptop to the kitchen when no one was home. This was a problem because I would turn the television on, be getting up and down for coffee, and playing with the phone. I had to get back into my office where I worked without any interruptions. I called the HVAC company and asked about a small HVAC system for my office. The HVAC technicians came to the house and looked at my area. It was a small apartment in the basement. There was a bathroom, living area where I had my office, and kitchenette with a microwave and coffee maker. I even had an apartment sized fridge with drinks and snacks. He said he could easily install a one unit mini split HVAC system that would heat and cool the entire area. He asked about the bathroom, and I told him my husband installed a small ventilation unit that included heat. The next day, he installed my HVAC system in my office.
