We Had a Lot of Fun Playing Music on the Streets and in Front of Bars

Even though I’ve lost all of my money in the wonderful land of trading, I still find joy and happiness playing music on the streets in front of bars with my bandmate.

I guess we don’t need much to be happy, just some kind of hobby that makes you feel good seems like enough to give you temporary happiness. Money is necessary for living in today’s world, but there is more to life than just numbers in a bank account. My HVAC company where I work supplies me with just enough money to get by. I think if I have what I need, like food and shelter, then the rest of my happiness comes down to doing something I love on a regular basis. I do some heat pump and space heater repairs during the day for my work, and at night I unleash my spirit and play drums and sing with my buddy. I’m going to try and see if we can get some gigs around town in the local businesses, but if that doesn’t work then we will travel to the big city an hour away and perform there. I just want to perform in clubs with good climate control systems so we aren’t freezing or hot during the extreme weather. I think I still have some good connections from that city so I am going to contact them and see what they say. I will go now and do some heating and cooling repair jobs for the HVAC business and then meet Danny to go practice by the beach later.

Found Some Great Energy Saving Tips From a Homeless Man

I somehow ended up talking with this homeless man, who actually used to work in the HVAC industry, and he gave me some great tips on how to save money with energy bills.

  • His best tip was to just live outside like he does, but I don’t know if I want to get that extreme with my money saving plan.

I just want to trim down on my energy usage in my flat so it doesn’t cost me so much each month to live. I think if I get the small mini split AC unit, like the homeless man was telling me about, I would save a lot of money each month not having to cool down the whole flat. I had a huge power bill come in last year and it took me a couple of months to pay it off as I didn’t expect it was going to be so much. I now keep the climate control system off, for the most part, and only run it a little bit on days that warrant its use. I use more fans in the summer and put on more clothes in the winter. That was one good tip the homeless guy gave me; to wear more clothes and wool socks in the house when it is chilly there. I normally would have just reached for the smart thermostat and turned on the heating in the home, but now I put on another layer of warm clothes and save some money. I think heating is what uses the most energy when it comes to climate control.

Ahh, Just Did my Yoga and a Big Salad is Coming Next

I have done a 15 minute yoga routine seven days a week for the past 12 years now.

  • I find that 15 minutes a day is all I need and it has given me a lot more flexibility in my joints and muscles.

When I began doing yoga at the local business, I couldn’t touch my toes with my legs together and straight while standing, but now I can literally put my forehead on the shins of my knees and fold completely over like a pretzel. My HVAC pro friend has been doing yoga with me each day and she has gained a ton more flexibility in her body. I have no more lower back pain, which is why I started yoga in the first place, and I can do a lot more movements in volleyball matches that I couldn’t before. When I work on heating and cooling equipment in someone’s house, and I am bent over working on it for a long time, when I stand up again I don’t have that piercing pain in my lower back like I used to have. If you don’t do yoga and you want to, try starting with just one minute a day for a week, and then move up to two minutes the following week, and so on up to 15 or 20 minutes a day. I can carry a big heat pump up many flights of stairs and not suffer the following day like I did before getting into yoga. My HVAC company boss is the next one on my list to get started with it.

Happy 76th Birthday to My Dad the Old HVAC Specialist

My long lost dad would have been 76 years old today and I would be calling him to tell him happy birthday.

But if I called him now he wouldn’t answer the phone anymore, and that is sad because I really want to talk to him.

He left the world just over two years ago and it still doesn’t feel like he is gone for some reason. I guess I am just not good at accepting death and the fact that I will never see my dad again. He taught me about air conditioning systems, old dial thermostat repair, and how to tune up an old oil furnace. He taught me many things, but I guess he never taught me about letting go and acceptance because I just can’t seem to shake this sadness and feeling of loss after two years. Anytime I have to do an HVAC repair job at a customer’s house I still catch myself looking over my shoulder for my dad’s lovely smile and green eyes. I guess he was supposed to go when he did, but being stuck overseas and not seeing him before he left will forever bother me. I just need to keep on plugging away working for the heating and cooling supplier and believe that I will find real peace and happiness again in my life. It wasn’t just my dad I lost, a month after dad died my girlfriend moved out and then I lost all my savings on bad investment choices because I wasn’t thinking clearly. The only good news is, I don’t have much more to lose!

I Have Lots of Quiet Time for Reflection and Rejuvenation

Some people look at silence as something scary that you have to make it through, but I see it as relaxing and refreshing.

I spend some time alone and have figured out that if I make it enjoyable then it helps me as a person to grow and become a better version of myself.

I used to fill in all silence with noise of some kind, but now that I am old I see silence as a friend who helps calm and soothe me, making me a more patient person in the process. I do HVAC equipment jobs on my own sometimes and I find I work better when it is quiet, as I can think more clearly and operate more efficiently. I was a process engineer back in the Valley in Cali and I learned how to make things work more efficiently, including life. Life is a process, just like heating or cooling a room is a process, and it can be made to run more efficiently if you break things down to their simpler components. I used to work in a manufacturing plant back in the Valley and learned how to make the processes run as quickly and efficiently as they could. I use the same techniques when working on HVAC systems or programming smart thermostats for customers, and it makes for an easier day at work when you do so. Today I am going to just clean the HEPA filter for a customer so they know how to do it next time, so it should be a very easy day for me.

I allow my family to mess with the temperature control in my home

I live in a holiday state, which means my family is regularly traveling to see me… Staying in my loft will save so much currency on hotel rooms, then and while I don’t have the pool or the fancy restaurants or beds savor a hotel room, I do what I can to regularly make sure that my family has a comfortable stay! This includes making sure that there is coffee, chips, entertainment, and more.

I also make sure that inside my home is regularly at the perfect temperature, then over the years, I have regularly extended the courtesy to my family to adjust the temperature control to the temperature that makes them comfortable.

And at times, I have had family members who have either turned the temperature control too high or too low, but naturally, I don’t mind because I assume that it’s only temporary… I normally keep my temperature control at the advocated temperature of 70 degrees in the Summer and 70 degrees in the Wintertide weeks, then however, those un-even temperatures could be too tepid or too frigid for someone else. Of course, I understand that not all the people will savor the same setting on the temperature control. Hence the reason I grant my guests the option to adjust the temperature control at any given time, however unfortunately, that is not regularly reciprocated as I have stayed at my aunt’s loft who doesn’t allow anyone to adjust her temperature control. In fact, she has a sign next to the temperature control that states do not touch. This is her way of avoiding any unnecessary spikes in her energy bill. And while this is a single sure way to regulate her bill, I assume that is a bit extreme.
