To air conditioner or not to air conditioner

So I still had to deal with the heat and humidity until the air conditioner repairman came

I promised the kids my pal and I would go to the zoo over Summer vacation but then I kept putting it off, but finally, October rolled around and there was only 1 week left before they start school again. You might not suppose that a 5 and a 6 year outdated would remember but they did. There was no way I could weasel out of going to the zoo. Unluckyly, my pal and I only had a short time left for our visit and it was boiling and humid with a chance of thunderstorms. That is official for this area. I really really didn’t want to go to the zoo and stand around separate from air conditioner all afternoon. I am glad I found an alternative. There is this little nature center nearby that has all sorts of local creatures. The best part is that it is almost all indoors. Only the otters are outdoors. Everything else inside with weather conditions control. So I took the kids to the nature center. They complained because, obviously, it wasn’t the zoo my pal and I normally go to. Thankfully, I was able to convince them that the air conditioned nature center was a strange sort of zoo. My child really enjoyed the snapping turtles, my child enjoyed the otters of course, and I enjoyed the air conditioner. I was super comfortable indoors. The humidity was kept in check, and my pal and I all had a good time. That is, until my pal and I got back home. Once my pal and I got house I noticed that our central a/c had stopped working. So I still had to deal with the heat and humidity until the air conditioner repairman came. Thankfully the kids enjoyed enjoying him work. I, on the other hand, could really use a nap.

Man cave needs ductless mini split system

My father has been busy building himself a man cave out behind the house.

I keep calling it a she-shed and this is making him mad.

To me, a man cave goes in the basement and a she-shed goes outside of the house; My dad’s house doesn’t have a basement so he got a little shed and is turning that into a man cave. I have to admit, it is turning out good. The shed already had a wood cottage look to it. My dad got some comfortable chairs, a pressing screen TV, and a mini fridge. He also got a gaming desk to fit and hooked up his PC. The only concern is that his she-shed has no heating or cooling. It is winter now and rather uncomfortable in the man cave. He got a little space furnace and that is working pretty well but I worry about the safety of those things. My dad said he is thinking about getting a ductless mini split system installed in his man cave. I have never even heard of one of those. I was looking at PTAC systems myself for the cave. However, PTAC systems are super loud most of the time… Besides, you have to split a sizable hole in the wall. When I looked a ductless mini split systems I guess that might be perfect for the she-shed. Those don’t require that sizable holes be split in the wall. They also tend to be quiet, and even more quiet than central heating and air. The little ductless mini split systems are not prohibitively costly either, but you can get one for just over a thousand dollars. Of course, replacement costs a bit more but I guess it would be worth it to make sure it is done right.

I want new plus improved heating plus cooling products

I am not impressed with the heating plus cooling products that our correct HVAC contractor has to offer.

We have been using the same HVAC contractor for over a decade now plus they are good. The servicemans are always on time plus well kept. The prices are low too. But our old HVAC system has been cutting down a lot lately. It is not our HVAC contractor’s fault that our HVAC system is ancient. The servicemans have told us a few times that my associate and I might want to start looking into newer heating plus cooling products. We agreed. We looked at what our correct HVAC contractor has to offer though plus my associate and I are not impressed. It is all stuff from a decade ago. I want a smart HVAC system with energy saving capabilities plus a high SEER rating. In other words, I want new HVAC technology. Not technology that is 10 years old. When I have brought this up to my HVAC servicemans they say that all of their unit is new. They act like I think it is used equipment. I know it is new. It just isn’t current HVAC equipment. I think I should get what I want if I am going to be paying numerous thousand dollars, then don’t you? Despite my being insistent on this my HVAC contractor just keeps showing me the same old HVAC equipment. Then they act like their feelings are hurt when I mention a more current HVAC brand or capability. I don’t know if they won’t or can’t get new HVAC technology at this contractor but it is looking like I will have to find a odd HVAC contractor if I want new plus improved heating plus cooling products.

Man cave needs ductless mini split system

My father has been busy building himself a woman cave out behind the house. I keep calling it a she-shed plus this is making him mad. To me, a woman cave goes in the basement plus a she-shed goes outside of the house. My dad’s condo doesn’t have a basement so she got a little shed plus is turning that into a woman cave. I have to admit, it is turning out good. The shed already had a wood cottage look to it. My dad got some comfortable chairs, a big screen TV, plus a mini fridge. She also got a gaming desk to fit plus hooked up her ipad. The only concern is that her she-shed has no heating or cooling. It is winter now plus rather uncomfortable in the woman cave. My dad said she is thinking about getting a ductless mini split system installed in her woman cave. I have never even heard of one of those. I was looking at PTAC systems myself for the cave. When I looked a ductless mini split systems I think that might be perfect for the she-shed. Those don’t require that pressing holes be chop in the wall. Nice condo has no HVAC system

I have had my eye on the condo on the hill for over a decade now, i have always lusted over that house.

It overlooks the ocean, has amazing gardens you can see from the freeway, plus has these beautiful decorative windows, then when I drive by I can see the lights on in the condo plus I wish it was mine, however that is why I was happy to learn that the condo was listed up for sale. I doubted that my associate and I could afford it but I arranged for a walk through anyway. In person, this condo was even more amazing than I had imagined. The decorative windows are beautiful from the inside, and however, the one feature of the condo I didn’t like was the fact that it had no central heating or cooling, none at all. In fact, it just had baseboard boilers spread throughout the condo plus 2 window air conditioning units. When I asked the realtor why it had no central HVAC system she told me that the walls, ceiling, plus flooring were not built right for ductwork… Still, there is such a thing as underfloor heating plus cooling. And yet, I would do not care for to tear up those decorative wood floors. However, I heard about this HVAC system called a ductless mini split system. Apparently you just have to drill a few holes in the walls plus run some hoseing through them. I would actually look into the opportunity of getting that done if I could afford this house. If I could afford the house, I still don’t know that I would buy it if there was no way to get an HVAC system installed. I like the looks of the condo but I want my creature comforts too.

Grandpa needs a new furnace and a smart thermostat

Grandpa is getting older and his memory is not quite what it used to be.

He has been getting more and more forgetful but he is very adamant: he does not want to go into an old folks home.

He wants to remain independent as long as possible so we have a nurse who checks in on him every day. We all try to call at least once a day too to make sure grandpa is doing okay and we took away his car keys because he really shouldn’t be driving anymore. He’s okay with this because we make sure he gets everything he needs and we bring him meals too. Even the stove is turned off for safety. However, he still managed to start a fire when he left a book on top of the space heater last week. Thankfully, he took care of the situation as soon as the smoke detectors went off. Nonetheless, we feel that the space heater is a little too dangerous for Grandpa but it gets cold at night so he needs some sort of heat. We decided to all pitch in and have central heating installed and Grandpa’s house. The central heater is a lot safer because it’s almost impossible to start a fire even if Grandpa leaves his books on the vents. We also have the HVAC workers install a smart thermostat so we can monitor the temperatures in the house. We can even do this remotely from our cell phones and adjust the temperature for Grandpa no matter where we are. This should help Grandpa stay in his own home a bit longer and stay safe.
