If you work all the time, it’s hard to keep up with the household stuff that we are all responsible for.

Now, if you’re in a marriage and own a nice house with quality heating and air, you like for it to look nice and all of that.

But if you’re both spending 70 hours a week inside some zone controlled HVAC of the office week in and week out, it’s tough taking care of the home. My wife and I are in that very situation. We do have the nice house and our residential HVAC is state of the art. The HVAC equipment was installed five years ago when we bought this house and property and has the best HVAC technology as well. I’m still sort of wondering why we paid to have more house, more land and more responsibilities when we couldn’t take care of the last place. However, just as we have before, we pay other people to take care of our home. There is a handyman we have that can do or fix just about anything around the house. We lean on him for projects and repairs. So when the air conditioning was acting wonky, I called him. That’s the first time he told me no to any request. But he spent 10 minutes explaining to me why HVAC equipment is the sole domain of the HVAC technician. It was both enlightening and impressive to understand all the training and continuing education an HVAC professional has to go through. For sure, the HVAC professional is the only person I’ll call for HVAC help going forward.

Being prepared is something I prefer when it comes to dealing with life.

• Of course, this isn’t always a possibility but it’s the much better way for me indeed.

If I can make a plan, at least I have a structure and can be flexible a bit from there. But when it comes to the quality heating and air in my home, there really isn’t any room for flexibility. The way I view heating and cooling in my house is that it’s just quite essential. So I’ve never left the heating and cooling of my home up to a whim or any sort of chance. That’s meant getting heating maintenance on the HVAC equipment each fall. The spring, I call the HVAC company again to have them do the air conditioning tune-up prior to summer. I don’t leave the HVAC unit unprepared for the load it takes on with heating in the winter and cooling in the summer. So when the HVAC technician indicated that we should be watching for signs that the HVAC unit was about to die, I was already thinking ahead. When the HVAC unit turned 20 years old, I started putting money in an account to have ready when the time came. I just wasn’t going to wait for the the HVAC utility costs to spike or any of the other signs that my HVAC unit was about to drop dead. No, I met with the HVAC contractor the following week and got the process of putting new residential HVAC in our home rolling.

Saving on HVAC cooling costs was something that just had to happen.

The first two years we were down here, the heat and humidity levels were completely overwhelming.

So it felt as though the only recourse was to pour on the air conditioning. It makes sense if you’ve ever experienced the sort of summer we get this far south. For sure, the winter is worth dealing with the summer. But it’s still a long four months where the temperatures outside hover right around the century mark for month after month. But after two years, it was time to stop over cooling our home. The HVAC cooling costs were just outrageous and I simply couldn’t justify them any longer. So this spring, I talked with the HVAC technician when he came to do the air conditioning tune-up on the house. This guy is a native of the area and a great HVAC professional. He’s also a heck of a nice guy. He told me that a great way to start getting accustomed to the heat is by not cranking the HVAC cooling in the spring. Then, he directed me to the HVAC company website where they had a step by step program of basic house and home preparation to save money on HVAC cooling. I followed it exactly and basically just really sealed up the house. But I also put in some solar sun shades to stop the direct sunlight heating in half the house. Yet, it is the thermostat setting that will really tell the tale. We didn’t lean into the HVAC cooling this summer so we’re hoping we can keep the thermostat in the low 80’s during the heat of the day this summer.

I may be in the minority, but I decided to use a furnace for my heating.

I found that a furnace is much easier and cheaper to maintain than a full on central heating and air conditioning system unit.

I have a stand alone central air conditioning system to take care of my cooling, and the furnace takes care of the heating. I also like the way the furnace heat feels versus central heating. The fact that I have a gas furnace I think makes a difference. Because I think an electric furnace would be the same as central heating in terms of the way the heating feels. Central heating or any kind of electric heating for that matter has a dry feel as to where the gas furnace is more neutral. That is how I feel in my experience anyhow. Getting a brand new gas furnace was actually not as easy as I thought it was going to be though. Because most people these days go for central heating and air conditioning systems, a lot of heat and a/c dealerships do not stock any kind of furnaces other than commercial or industrial kinds for large buildings. So I actually had to have my gas furnace ordered from the heating and air conditioning dealership that I got it from. The installation was pretty detailed too. That I won’t deny. But I just prefer a gas furnace over a central heating and air conditioning system any day of the week! There is no question in the whole wide world about that.

I finally decided to get with the times so to speak and buy a smart thermostat for my central heating and air conditioning system.

I have been using a very old dial thermostat for years and many friends and family kept saying to me, “why don’t you get a smart thermostat?”.

Everyone these days seem to be going the smart thermostat way of things. So it was about time that I did. The reason I never got a smart thermostat before is because I was afraid of the technology to be totally honest with you all. I wanted to hang onto the old and simple as long as I could. But my family and friends were right! Smart thermostats are the best and I am so glad I finally went ahead and got one for my central heating and air conditioning system unit. Not only is a smart thermostat convenient, but it also is a great energy saver as well. I can not tell you how much money I have saved on my monthly electric bill ever since I have been using this totally awesome and wonderful smart thermostat! I really suggest to anyone who has not got a smart thermostat yet to go out and do so right away! They are not expensive and they are easy to install without the help of a certified heating and air conditioning specialist if you read the manual that comes with it. Again, I am so glad that I finally got a smart thermostat. It has changed my life for the better when it comes to my central heating and air conditioning unit.

I have been a hard working heating and air conditioning specialist for about 8 years now. I work for one of our local heat and a/c companies here in town. I always go the extra mile to do the very best that I can. I have even worked overtime before when I really didn’t need to. This was just to help the company out when they were short on heating and air conditioning specialists. Well, finally all my hard work has paid off as yesterday I was informed that they were giving me a raise! Not a ton of money more, but 2 bucks an hour more! That adds up. This isn’t a bonus, this is permanent as long as I am working here. My wife was over the moon with joy about it and of course so was I. This will mean we can do more things around the house and also be able to take a great vacation later in the year. This heating and air conditioning company really took notice of how above and beyond I go for them and finally did something to show their appreciation. Here’s hoping that maybe in the future they give me an even larger raise or even promote me to chief heating and air conditioning specialist! Now with being a chief heating and air conditioning specialist that is a very huge raise in pay. I’m not quite there yet, but I hope to be eventually. I will continue to work extra hard and give my all to this heating and cooling company!
