One of the things that I hate the most about owning a house is the fact that I am always the one responsible for getting things fixed.

If I spill wine on the carpet, I am the one that has to get the stain out.

If I need groceries, I am the one who has to get the fridge stocked up. Well, the other day my HVAC system broke down on me for the very first time since I moved in. Because of this I was forced to reach out to an HVAC company for assistance and had a pretty annoying experience. When I first called over for help this old lady answered and was quite rude. After some chatter she bookied me to have an HVAC tech come out to my house for 2pm the time slot. 2pm rolls around the next day, and I hear nothing. I give them a call at around 2:30 to see if there was any miscommunication, and all I get is a voicemail. Then two days later while I am out with friends I get another call from the rude HVAC receptionist who tells me that they have an HVAC tech at my house who has been waiting for me to answer the door. When I told her this wasn’t the time that we picked out, she said she would be canceling the appointment unless I was willing to pay a fee for being “late” to my own appointment! I have never blocked a company’s number and found a replacement so fast. Be aware of these scam ridden HVAC companies out there!

It had been a busy day and dad had been calling me practically the whole day.

I had not had a chance to return his calls as I had been in a meeting the entire day.

When I finally called him, I could hear that he was not well. He was coming down with the flu. Part of the reason he had been calling was that his air conditioner was too cold. I requested that he checks the thermostat to ensure that he had not set it too low. I had taught him how to reach the a/c care plan. The tech advised that we get a new air conditioning system since the current one was already aged and not as efficient. He linked us with an affordable air conditioning supplier and handled the air conditioner installation. Within a few hours, the air conditioning maintenance had been finished and the air quality restored. The system that provided dad with comfort is the same one that gave him the flu.

From a messenger to an air conditioning supplier

I remember when I got a call back from my interviewer offering me a job.

I was so excited that I ran up and down a flight of stairs.

My first day at the air conditioning company was full of drama. The fairly new air conditioning unit broke down from what seemed like the blue. The entire office was plunged into an oven, it was very hot and it was making working very difficult. I was working as a messenger at the air conditioning business. A friend of mine had graciously told me about the job and upon applying I was called back. My mother told me that as long as I did my best, I would reap great rewards. I did my best to learn from my other a/c worker colleagues. I accompanied them as they went on work orders involving air conditioner installation as well as designing custom a/c care plans for my colleagues. The skills I got from watching my colleagues helped me deal with the a/c repair on the air conditioner at home. Though I was slow, I did a pretty good job and even managed to restore the air quality and indoor comfort. It took a year and a passing technical exam for me to be promoted to an a/c representative. I enjoyed my job because no two days were similar. Every day is a chance to find another problem to solve in a/c service jobs. I found that I enjoyed doing air conditioning maintenance and after a while, I became quite an expert. When the business was expanded, my manager saw it fit to handle one of the outlets as an air conditioning supplier providing a/c care. My life changed for the better!

Since the year started, I had made plans to catch up with my friends and partner weekly.

Right after I wrote that intention down in my journal, there was a serious flow of work that left me scrambling to even catch a nap.

After weeks of trying to catch up with work, I finally had some free time to meet up with my friends. I had just come from doing an air conditioner installation plus comprehensive air conditioning maintenance in a residential area. It had been a super hot day and I was extremely exhausted. The hotel wasn’t so far from the office and so I decided to walk. I regretted my decision as soon as I stepped out of the air conditioning company, due to the heat. It was an elderly lady who had no idea how to keep up the required a/c care. To solve this problem, I took over scheduling the annual a/c service and she would call me in case of any a/c repairs that can occur at any time. The indoor comfort at the hotel was exceptional. I bumped into an a/c worker as I entered. It seemed that they took care of their air conditioner. I was so happy to see my friends and partner. The new air conditioning unit feeling made our dinner date more enjoyable. It was nice taking time out from the air conditioning business and air conditioning supplier duties.

Last year, I started working with a mentor. I had done due diligence to look for a perfect fit, a mentor who would teach me all about the air conditioning business and how to run a successful one. So far, I have learned a wealth of information from her. I remember the first lesson involved a broken-down air conditioner at an affluent home in the suburbs for a work order. How my mentor handled the irate customer from beginning to end was very impressive. When we got to the residence, we found a very irate customer. The complaint was that the air conditioner installation was barely three years and the system was starting to show signs of issues. The customer complained saying that we were the second team of a/c workers that he had called within the last three months. Both times, the a/c representatives called the same air conditioning company. He was talking to the customer as we handled the a/c repair. When we got back to the office, my mentor, who is also my boss, explained the first lesson, excellent customer service. Always be empathetic with the customer. Part of good customer service includes having a feasible a/c care plan customized to each client. If a customer is convinced to follow the a/c care guideline, then they can benefit from receiving quality a/c service from their old or even new air conditioning systems. He had been successful because he had opted to specialize in one area. My mentor was a specialist when it came to air conditioning maintenance as much as he also partly doubled up as an air conditioning supplier. Just as we seek to keep improving the air quality, so should I keep improving the business.

First time in prison to execute air conditioning maintenance

I never thought I would ever go to prison, be it to visit or be an inmate.

My parents had done a pretty good job raising a good person.

However, I got to go to prison a few weeks ago. A call came in on a hot Wednesday morning. It was the maximum prison just out of town, the warden was requesting an air conditioning representative to run the annual air conditioning maintenance. As part of my training at the air conditioning business, my supervisor assigned me and a team of a/c workers to handle the work order. I had mixed feelings about going to prison but I knew that work needs to be done and the customer should always receive service. On our drive there, the supervisor outlined some of the safety measures we would have to observe while we worked on the air conditioner. Fortunately, the system was in the furthest room of the prison away from the inmates. The warden told us that the air conditioner installation was done about five years back and they had tried to keep up with the a/c care plan but they had not done a good job of that. The examination of the unit revealed that little a/c care had been done, there was no sign of a recent visit from any a/c service provider. The unit needed a thorough clean before any a/c repairs were done. To be able to restore air quality and fix the system, the air conditioning supplier would deliver new filters. Once we replaced the filters, the system functioned as well as a new air conditioning system. The work order was successful and later when I was thinking about my day, I felt proud of the air conditioning company.
