There are signs of when it is time to make changes.

And the sign that my thermostat was way out of date just happened.

I have this old dial thermostat which I have had for many years. Anyway, the dial thermostat got stuck recently! I could not slide the temperature control and it go so bad it ended up to where I could not even turn on my central heating and air conditioning system because it was stuck. I had no choice but to go out and buy a brand new thermostat. And the thermostat that I chose to buy was one of those modern smart thermostats. Smart thermostats are where it is at today. There are no better thermostats out there in HVAC technology. Nearly everyone in their modern homes uses a smart thermostat for their central heating and air conditioning system unit. They can control the smart thermostat from anywhere using the app on their cell phone or laptop computers. This is great convenience and also helps you have more control over your central heating and air conditioning system unlike before the smart thermostat when you could only set the temperature and turn the central heating and air conditioning system unit off and on. How things have changed this day in age. The future is here and we need to embrace it. I see this now. And now I am beginning to with this brand new and completely awesome smart thermostat! I think smart thermostats will be here for decades to come.

I finally figured out a way to save money on all this energy use I have been using with running my central heating and air conditioning system all of the time.

The idea and solution came to me by way of visiting a website on the internet that talked about energy saving tips. Good energy saving tips are hard to come by when you are talking about saving energy on a central heating and air conditioning system unit. But this website had the solutions. And they were to go out and buy a portable space heater and a portable air conditioning system to run instead of running the central heating and air conditioning system all of the time. This will cut down on the energy use and end up saving me a lot of money monthly. I can run the portable space heater and portable air conditioning system in the day hours or at night while I am sleeping in the bedroom, depending on how extreme the temperatures are outside. If they are not super extreme, the portable space heater and the portable air conditioning system could run in its place and give me the same heating or the same air conditioning quality as the central heating and cooling system would give without my having to turn on the thermostat at all. This is something that I wish I knew a while back because I could have saved tons of money a lot earlier. This portable heating and air conditioning method is really really great!

I had a rather unusual problem with my central heating and air conditioning system recently.

There was leaking going on outside on the heat and a/c unit itself.

At first I thought it was some kind of water. But then I found out that it was actually a freon leak. This was caused by who knows what, but I had to call the local heating and air conditioning company right away. They then sent out a certified heating and cooling specialist to assess the issue. They figured out where the leak was coming from and were able to patch it up pretty fast. They also while they were here gave my central heating and air conditioning system an HVAC tune up as well as check up. Other than the freon leak, everything else seemed good to go with my central heating and air conditioning system. I had not had a tune up on my central heating and cooling unit in ages, so it was a good thing I finally did. They say that HVAC tune ups and check ups are the way to keep your central heating and air conditioning system alive longer. And probably had i got an HVAC tune up and check up on my central heating and air conditioning system, this leak may not have ever happened. Most likely the certified heating and cooling specialist would have found the beginning of the leak and fixed it before it actually became a major issue like it was at this very moment in time.

With winter approaching, I know what it is time to do. It is time to call the local heating and air conditioning company to schedule my seasonal ductwork cleaning. Getting my ductwork cleaned at the beginning of every single season is important and something I never miss doing. If I do not get my ductwork cleaned, when my central heating and air conditioning system runs it ends up giving my home bad air quality. Even though I use the absolute best in HEPA air filters. That is because the ductwork would be dirty with all kinds of dirt, grime and sometimes even pet dander that flew through the air. Also another good reason to get the ductwork cleaned is to see if the ductwork may need to be sealed as well. If things are getting in from outside, that means a good ductwork sealing is in order. But that is for the certified heating and cooling specialist from the local heating and air conditioning company to decide on. I can not make that decision unless I went up there myself, which because I am not a heating and air conditioning professional, I would never even try and do. My local heating and air conditioning and their heat and a/c specialists do a great job always in cleaning my ductwork every single season of the year. I could not be so lucky to have such great heating and cooling specialists taking care of the situation. And their prices are really good too compared to other heating and air conditioning companies in the local area.

This is a pretty gross story, but I feel like I need to tell someone just so I can warn them about what might happen if you don’t pay attention to your furnace during the summer in the fall.

I know that most of us do not pay that much attention to our furnace units during the summer or the first part of the fall when the weather is still warm.

I mean, it only makes sense for us to be thinking about other things during the summertime when the weather is warm outside. I know that personally, I think more about my air conditioning system during the summer than I ever do about my heating system. I guess that’s just human nature and so that’s what most people do. But sometimes, you should really think about your furnace unit, even when it’s warm outside. That’s because bad things could be happening within your furnace during the off season when you aren’t using it, and you could end up like my mom did! Whenever she went to turn her furnace unit on for the first time after a summer and fall without using it, she kept smelling a terrible smell that was coming from her heating vents. It got to be so bad that she ended up calling the HVAC company to see if they could come and figure out what the problem was. It turned out that there was a family of mice living inside of her furnace and when the furnace fired up, it roasted the mice. That’s what was making the terrible smell!

When you’re an HVAC technician the way that I am, you just never know what you are going to run into when you are out on the job.

It’s never boring, that’s for sure. I have to go to all kinds of places to complete furnace repair jobs. Most of the time, I am out on the job alone. Once in a while, I will have someone that I’m training with me, and that’s usually better when I end up at a weird location. I don’t like going to strange locations all by myself. It’s not like I am a chicken or anything like that, but you see all kinds of things on the news these days! I would hate to see a headline about an HVAC technician who disappeared after completing a furnace repair job at a creepy old house out in the country. I say that because a few weeks ago, the dispatch office at the HVAC company that I work for sent me out to a place just like that. It was a house that I had never been to before, and it literally looked like something out of a scary movie. The place looked deserted and super creepy. I couldn’t believe that anyone even lived there, let alone had a working furnace unit somewhere inside. When I got there, I parked the HVAC truck in the driveway and I just sat there for a few minutes to try and get my courage up before I went inside. I knew that if I did not go in, the guys at the office would make fun of me, so I went up on the porch and knocked on the door. There was a really creepy old guy inside who looked a little bit like a vampire. When he told me that the furnace was downstairs in the cellar, I nearly turned around to run away!
