When you live in a small town, you know mostly everyone and all of the businesses in the area.

As a heating and air conditioning worker, I have probably been in most of these people’s houses.

I am not even kidding. There is only one HVAC corporation in the entire town, and so we are constantly getting called out to the homes of this town. Since I have been a cooling tech for years, I can confidently say that I have been in pretty much everyone’s home. So when my boss told me that the little blue shop was in need of commercial HVAC repair, he didn’t need to tell me anything else. I knew exactly what he was talking about. He was talking about the blue shop that serves as an antique shop. Since our town was so small, there were not many appointments, and so I made my way over to the store, and the nice lady told me that the commercial heating and air conditioning machine started having issues this morning. All she had was a small window HVAC unit, and so figuring out the problem was going to be easy and quick. After checking over the machine thoroughly it was apparent what the problem was. The problem was that the system was clogged, and when I unclogged it, the problem was resolved. I told her to keep a better eye on her A/C system, and get more frequent HVAC maintenance and this problem wouldn’t happen. She thanked me and I left for my next appointment.

Have you ever heard of something, and as soon as you heard of whatever it was, immediately wanted it? I feel like most people can answer this question and admit that they have had this at least once. I know I certainly have. When it comes to temptations about expensive items, I am usually really good at avoiding them. However, not always. For example, I have been wanting to upgrade my heating and air conditioning machine for a long time. My central air conditioner is 8 years old, which actually isn’t that old. The problem is because the previous owners neglected it, it doesn’t function like it should, despite the multiple heat and A/C technician visits. When I heard of the zone HVAC control system, I knew it was perfect for my family’s situation. Pretty much everyone in my family has a different temperature preference, and instead of constantly bickering over the smart thermostat, and someone always left unsatisfied, it would be great to get the zoned heating and cooling machine. While I am usually hesitant to make any kind of big investments, I made a lot of money this month due to a promotion. So, with that being said, I think I will go ahead and call the local heating and air conditioning business and see what their quotes would be. Hopefully if everything works out well, I can have it installed sometime next week. I am trying not to get too excited, in case it’s too expensive, but I really hope I can get this new system.

Molly was in the house wondering how long the HVAC technician would take to finish fixing the AC. The house felt so terrible ever since the air conditioning failed. It was summer, she had a house full of kids, and they were getting restless. They had all been out of the house the previous day when the AC failed. Molly and her two kids had gone to the airport to pick up their cousins. Then, they went to the waterpark for the rest of the afternoon. By the time they got back home, it was almost 10 pm and the AC had been off for hours. Molly tried to inspect the cooling unit to determine why it had failed. But, her efforts were futile. After receiving her confirmation, they all went to bed, but it was not easy to fall asleep with the heat and humidity. The kids were in the shower several times trying to remain cool. They told their mom the pool house had excellent AC, and she should head there to relax as the HVAC technician was working. My husband joined in on the trend, and we never miss a sale unless it is something we do not need. We usually wait all year to buy any needed furniture or electronics on Black Friday. Last year was no different. We had sweatpants and running shoes ready. This year we were looking out for HVAC company offers. We were also looking to replace our HVAC unit, but the residential or commercial air conditioning companies rarely had crazy offers on the primary heating equipment. Such deals were mainly on things such as an ac filter, but we used a HEPA filter which rarely had any discount. The HVAC professional who did the last HVAC maintenance suggested that we prepare to buy a new heating device since ac repair would no longer cut it. A friend of mine who is an HVAC technician told me that many customers usually take advantage of the sale, which leads to a rise in demand for heating and cooling systems. It was also a marketing strategy for new products in the market. She also told me that they would have an offer on a certain air conditioning system where the delivery would be free. Home services, such as ductwork servicing would be free. Heaven knows my air duct needs work. There was no better birthday gift than getting a much-needed item for free, and if not entirely free, at a discounted rate. The a/c worker had assured us that upgrading the air conditioner would improve the air quality and help with indoor comfort.

The past week, we have experienced a series of heat waves in town that have devastated many air conditioning systems that had not received the annual HVAC maintenance recommended by the HVAC professionals.

One of the people that suffered that fate was my neighbor and his family.

Marcus has a wife and two kids. Our kids often play together, and we are good friends with both parents. Last week, we heard a knock on our door at midnight. The Kanes had come to request for their kids to spend the night at our house because their HVAC unit had malfunctioned. The system had been having issues for a couple of days, and it malfunctioned before getting an a/c worker to work on it. They had just settled into their beds when the lights flickered, and they heard a muffled bang in the basement. Everything went off after that. The next day, they called home services. The HVAC technician examined the system and established that it had imploded and was glad no one got hurt. AC repair could not salvage the unit. Marcus bought new equipment at the HVAC company. Installation of the air conditioner took a few hours, and during this time, our kids played while we enjoyed brunch in our backyard. The best part was that the ductwork was in good condition. They just cleaned the air duct and replaced the ac filter to improve air quality. The a/c workers from the cooling corporation were very efficient and swift. They finished fitting the new unit, cleaned their workstation, and left the Kane family to enjoy the improved help with indoor comfort. Our kids had so much fun at the impromptu sleepover that I overheard them wishing their system would break down again. What do kids know about the cost of such a setback?
