Boy, I sort of cut that close when it came to getting the new HVAC technology installed.

But it seems like the Summer weather is early this year.

This week felt very much like Summer with the high humidity levels and the temperatures around 90. In a month, we’ll have the same humidity levels but the temps will be in the high 90’s. And it will stay that way pretty much through September. Normally, the prospect of facing yet another steamy, hot Summer would have me anxious. I would also be rushing around to finalize the prep on our home to maximize the heat pump efficiency. But I got all that done early along with the air conditioning tune up from the HVAC professionals. I did all this early because I was expecting the smart thermostat I ordered to be here much earlier. Yet like so many other things, we are still dealing with supply chain issues. So I shouldn’t be surprised that my new HVAC technology was back-ordered for months. However, early last week, the HVAC company called. The smart thermostat was in and they could send an HVAC technician out to install it. I was so thankful because I really didn’t want to have to leave the air conditioning on until the smart thermostat was in control. That thing is in now and in just the nick of time it appears. I’ve been looking at the forecast and it looks like the heat pump is in for more cooling demand. But I’m just so excited to have the HVAC technology in place to save me a lot more money on cooling costs this Summer.

I grew up inside a big, almost giant housing complex in the inner city.

This city is located way up north where the Winter can be particularly brutal.

There were a number of things that we had to do without in that apartment. It was rent controlled and I was being raised by a single mom working two jobs to stay afloat. There were times we had to really tighten the belt and deal with hardships back then. But one thing we never had to worry about was the heating in the Winter. For all the things that were wrong with that giant building, they sure got the heating right. Of course, it was radiant heating and there was a giant boiler in the basement providing the source for that radiant heating. There were times it got so toasty warm in our apartment that we had to crack a window in the dead of Winter. These days, that’s all a distant memory but those times help me remember just how fortunate I am now. Living a bit further south now, I don’t have a Winter that needs a gas furnace or a boiler. I live in a house with central air conditioning and the heat pump is all we need for both heating and cooling. This thing, besides being such a revolutionary invention, is just so amazingly versatile. Aside from changing the air filter and getting HVAC maintenance in the Fall and Spring, the heat pump takes care of the rest. And all I have to do is flip the thermostat from heating to cooling or vice versa. One thing that is still guaranteed in my life is plenty of good heating in the Winter. It’s just these days, a heat pump is the source of that good heating comfort instead of a boiler.

I don’t know just how many more fishing trips dad has left in him.

But this Springtime’s trip was particularly one of the best I’ve ever gotten to experience with that charming man.

His health has been such that he wasn’t able to get up to the lake for the last couple of years. But simply due to his amazing resilience, he’s doing much better and is living every moment to its fullest. I cherish that about him. He’s never been one to simply just sit in the air conditioning at home. Dad particularly helped his dad build the lodge up at the lake. It’s sort of been passed down to me now as I hold the keys. Dad didn’t even make a giant deal out of that passing of the torch. But his look said everything really. The lodge is rustic and that’s constantly been fine. I’m not up there to watch cable or anything like that. Yet, since dad wasn’t up to going to the lodge the last couple of years, I’ve been doing some renovating. Between me and my buddies, we have painted, refurbished and added some residential heating, ventilation, and A/C to the lodge. One of my buddies is an actual heating, ventilation, and A/C professional. We got another pair of ductless heat pumps and spent a long weekend fishing, drinking budweiser and installing the ductless heat pumps. It particularly has made a difference. When dad walked in the lodge, his eyes just lit up. He was so into all the improvements that I had made. He also particularly thanked me for not waiting until he was dead before putting in some quality heating and air in the lodge. We had yet another quality fishing trip together and this one was extra special for a lot of reasons.

So much of our saved cash is tied up in our home and our property.

But that was sort of the idea when we bought this locale all those years ago.

It’s tough to know that we’ve been here 27 years. The fact that we are replacing the heating, ventilation, and A/C equipment is a giant reminder though. Honestly, we weren’t sure that we’d even get 20 years out of that heating, ventilation, and A/C equipment. When we actually bought this locale, the previous owner split every corner he could when it came to the necessary improvements. While the heating, ventilation, and A/C equipment wasn’t garbage, it was particularly a long way from top of the line. Yet, we simply enjoyed this home so much that we weren’t willing to let less than awesome heating, ventilation, and A/C equipment be a deal breaker. So like with all the stuff that we own, we began with preventive maintenance. Whether it’s a car, the roof, the yard or whatever we’ve invested drastic cash in, we know in consistent, planned maintenance. That’s also particularly the case when it comes to heating, ventilation, and A/C maintenance. Even with the heating, ventilation, and A/C equipment that came with the house, we had the heating, ventilation, and A/C professionals out twice a year for seasonal heating, ventilation, and A/C maintenance. And shockingly, that paid off giant time with the heating, ventilation, and A/C unit. I can’t know if we got nearly 30 years out of that sort of residential heating, ventilation, and A/C. But it just goes to show that heating, ventilation, and A/C maintenance is an investment in the efficiency, viability and longevity of heating and cooling equipment. The new heating, ventilation, and A/C unit is just awesome and everything that we could have asked for. And of course, we’ll keep getting heating maintenance in the Fall and then another air conditioning tune up before Summer.

I surely didn’t even know that I would ever be a good candidate for working remotely.

The corporation I work for particularly made a giant push for those with similar jobs as mine to take incentives to work from home.

This was well before the pandemic shut down the zone-controlled heating, ventilation, and A/C and sent all the people home to work in their own air conditioning. When I was asked if I wanted to go to work at home, it didn’t take me a second to say no. I liked working inside the zone controlled heating, ventilation, and A/C of the office. And besides, I was far too social a person to particularly work at home alone. Well, that’s not exactly right as I have a pair of high college kids still at home. But they are in college or working or dating or whatever most of the time so it’s not like they would be a distraction. So I simply believe I should be shocked to still be working from home when most of my colleagues are right back to work. Apparently, I did the best work of my job while I was at home and the bosses took notice. So when I came back to work with all the other people, I wasn’t at my desk an hour before I was called into the boss’s office. And again, I was given all sorts of incentives to trade the commercial heating, ventilation, and A/C of the office for the central air conditioning of my home. And this time, I definitely said yes. It was tough not to with the incentives and the bonus structure that were put in front of me. The first thing I did was to have the heating, ventilation, and A/C corporation come out to install a ductless heat pump in my living room. I cherish having my own quality heating and air in my office.

We also particularly experienced what it was like being inside a home with a whole home air purification system. For years, my loving wife and I have been searching for a way to particularly improve the indoor air quality of our home. We have dealt with indoor air stinks that have been a constant source of consternation. And having a home that stinks isn’t good when you want to have people over to the central air conditioning of your home. Seriously, we just quit having social events at our house. Explaining the stinks to visiting family was tough enough. And we tried just everything we could know to try when it came to covering up the stinks. There were several products that were more promising than others for sure. But there was never a solution before we finally turned to the heating, ventilation, and A/C corporation for constant help. That’s when they explained that we were never getting rid of the stink until we got rid of the bacteria in the air causing the stink. And the only way to do that the way we needed it done was air purification. That’s when we learned that some of our friends had the whole home air purification system. We also called them up to see if we could come check it out. Well, it also took no more than that one visit to realize that we finally had our stink and dust sensitivity solution in the whole home air purification system. It simply works inside the heating, ventilation, and A/C unit so we don’t have to transport this air purification system around or wash any sort of filter. Using lots of UV light, this air purification system literally fries the DNA of all indoor air contaminants as well.
